News & Events
On May 6th, YCS met with the Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee (YSSC) to hear about how the 2019 salmon season worked out, and to discuss the projections for this summer.
On May 1st, the Yukon Conservation Society presented some of our concerns around existing mining legislation to the Yukon Mineral Development Strategy (YMDS) panel. YCS anticipates sending additional comments to the YMDS over the ongoing consultation process. All Yukoners are invited to submit their own comments via the panel's website.
Yukoners love the outdoors, and with the weather starting to warm up many have been looking forward to getting outside, not only for their physical health, but also to enjoy the benefits that nature provides in improving mental health, and in reducing stress and anxiety. YCS agrees with the Yukon Government that the safety of users and staff at Territorial Parks must be a priority in response to COVID-19. While infrastructure and staffing at the parks will be closed, green spaces and trails will remain open as long as users continue to maintain effective physical distancing.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of the continued access of trails but would like to remind everyone to #LeaveNoTrace, and be sure to pack out any garbage you take with you. There will be no bin pickup while the parks are closed.
