50th Anniversary Events

YCS turns 50 in 2018. Here's our list of upcoming Anniversary events, and a full printable calendar to download! Updates will be posted regularly.

Yukon Bird Club Birdathon: Fri. May 25 – Sat. May 26, 5pm – 5pm (24 hours), meet at YCS
This year YCS will be birding without vehicles. See the Yukon Bird Club website for information and a downloadable pledge sheet, or stop by the office at 302 Hawkins St. Please email Julia to let us know you'll be coming.
Friday May 25 - 6-8:30pm - Bike and Bird (meet at gazebo, km 4 Fish Lake Rd.) We'll be biking around McIntyre Creek and downtown finding birds.
Saturday May 26 - 8am-11am - Downtown/Airport/Hillcrest Bird Walk (meet at YCS office) We'll be meeting at YCS, biking to the Black St. stairs, then beginning a walk up to Hillcrest from downtown, finding birds. Meet at 8:30am at the bottom of the Black St. stairs if you don't want to bike there from YCS.
Saturday May 26 - 1pm-4pm - Hidden Lakes Bird Walk (meet at YCS office) We'll be biking to Riverdale and then beginning a walk up to the Hidden Lakes trails. Meet at 1:30pm at Grey Mountain Primary School (end of Lewes Blvd) if you don't want to bike there from YCS. This will finish our 24-hour birding session before the BBQ at Robert Service Campground (6pm).

Garden Box Project: Soil Filling, Gardening 101 + Planting: June 1, 3-6pm.
Help fill boxes with soil, plant seeds and learn about gardening in the Yukon.


BBQ and Storytelling: Fri. Sept. 7, 5-7pm, YCS
Gather in the YCS yard to share stories from our 50-year history.

50th Anniversary Celebration: Sat. Nov. 17, evening, Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, Whitehorse
Join us to celebrate 50 years of YCS history and look ahead to 2068! There’ll be food, music, dancing, and friends new and old.
