For Immediate Release:

10th Anniversary – Created at the Canyon

June 22, 2021 (Whitehorse, YT)

The Yukon Conservation Society (YCS) is pleased to announce that we will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our art-in-nature program ‘Created at the Canyon’ on Friday, July 2nd and Saturday, July 3rd at Kwanlin/Miles Canyon.

This free cultural event promotes local artists who will be on site for two days to work on and share their art process with the public.

Created at the Canyon will take place at Kwanlin/Miles Canyon on Friday, July 2nd from 2 PM – 8 PM, and Saturday, July 3rd from 10 AM - 4 PM.

To celebrate this decade milestone, we will be hosting ten artists this year, and there will be an opening ceremony on July 2nd at 2pm which will include some short speeches by MP Larry Bagnell, Mayor Dan Curtis, and Chief Doris Bill. We will also be running a photo contest during the two-day outdoor event.

The following is a list of the ten artists who have been selected by jury to participate:

Horst Berlow               Amna Bhatti   Tom Connor   Marian Geary

Brent Liddle     Claire Lockett

Annie Maheux            Janet Patterson          Sadie Segriff

Jane Fergusson Storey

WildWise Yukon will also have a table at the site on Friday to answer hikers’ questions about safe hiking practices which prevent wildlife conflicts.

Following Created at the Canyon, the art produced will be exhibited at the Yukon Arts Centre Community Gallery from July 16 to August 27. There will be an exhibit launch party on Friday, July 16 from 5-7 PM. The exhibit is wheelchair-accessible.

We would like to thank the following supporters: Government of Canada, Yukon Government, City of Whitehorse, Yukon Arts Centre, and Yukon Energy.
