Outdoor Education

Get outside.

At the Yukon Conservation Society, we believe in getting people outside to connect with nature. We offer free, fun interpretive programming for all ages throughout the summer at Miles Canyon, Canyon City, and other Whitehorse parks. We also promote the responsible use of trails and greenspace throughout Whitehorse and the Yukon.

Our Vision

Outreach and education are at the core of who YCS is. By providing opportunities to learn and engage with nature, we foster awareness, respect, and action to conserve our land and water.

Outdoor Ed Goals

1.

To promote and engage Yukoners about important conservation matters, including the climate and biodiversity crisis, and how they can participate in innovative and impactful solutions to these

2.

To provide opportunities for YCS members, partners and the community to participate in engaging and informative outdoor events that further their support and knowledge of key conservation priorities

Responsible Trail Use

When you are out on the land, whether walking, biking or using off-road vehicles, please tread lightly. Off-Road-Vehicles in particular can cause damage to sensitive wetlands, fish and wildlife and other habitat areas. Learn more about the emerging ORV regulations in the Yukon and how you can tread lightly when off-roading in the Legislative and Education/Outreach resource tabs below.

Current Initiatives

Guided Hikes Program

We offer free-guided hikes and other special events and programming at Miles Canyon (Kwanlin). The programs promote conservation, knowledge of Yukon history, art, and the love of the outdoors!

Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek Park)

In Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek Park), we’re working to protect the area from harmful development and support Whitehorse residents in their enjoyment of the trails. Did you know that Whitehorse has over 800 km of trails for you to explore?

Edible Garden Project

Starting in the summer of 2018, we started our own edible garden project at YCS. Click here for more information about how to get involved or how to build and plant your own garden North of 60!

Created at the Canyon

Created at the Canyon is an art-in-nature program that YCS has been running since 2012, and supports local artists while encouraging them to engage with nature.
